Dr. Stephen Chan
Dr. Stephen Chan joined Seattle University in 1996 to teach at the Department of Theology and Religious Studies. He is an Associate Professor of Religious Studies, and offers courses in world religions and Christian theology at SU. Born in Taiwan, grew up in Hong Kong, Professor Chan received his Ph.D. in theology from the University of Chicago Divinity School. He has published articles in academic journals on topics of Buddhism, Confucianism and Christian theology. Dr. Chan regularly gave public lectures and workshops at community groups and churches, from California to New York. Locally, he was invited by the Church Council of Greater Seattle and local churches to speak on issues of inter-religious dialogue and interfaith relations. He was interviewed by KING5-TV on issues of Asian religions and culture. At SU, he is an advisor of the Taiwanese Student Association of SU, and has been serving in the Rank and Tenure Committee, Collegiate and University-level, Grievance committee of the College of Arts and Sciences, and in various committees and task-forces. Dr. Chan also serves as the president of the North American Reformed Institute. Dr. Stephen Chan brings to SU his international and ecumenical background as well as his knowledge and respect for other traditions and heritage.
