Critical Scholarship of the Pentateuch
Why is it important for evangelicals to become familiar with critical approaches to the Pentateuch?
Answer
In the last hundred and fifty to two hundred years, critical scholars have given a great deal of attention to study of the Pentateuch. And although we evangelicals may disagree with many of those approaches, it's necessary for us to be aware of where many Old Testament scholars are in order that we can respond to their suggestions correctly. We must not simply do our Bible study in a vacuum, as it were, without being aware of what's going on around us. We need to state our approaches in the light of all that is being said elsewhere.
