Please tell me what information do we have outside of the Old & New Testament scriptures do we have that show that Moses really did exist?
Jesus and Paul (Rom 9, etc) both referred to the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible written by Moses.
Can God make errors? NO!(Deut 32:4; 2 Sam 22:31; Psa 18:30). Did Jesus, who is God in the flesh, make a mistake in Luke 24:44, when he said, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled?” Jesus actually confirms that Moses wrote the Pentateuch in numerous locations in the N.T. (Matt 19:7-8; Mark 7:10; 12:26, etc.).
As far as evidence outside of the Bible, let’s begin with the massive amount of information we have on the book of Exodus, which was written by Moses. Evidence includes the Ipuwer Papyrus. It speaks of some specific plagues (famine, blood, fire, and insects). It reveals that a large slave population made a rapid evacuation. At the end of the Early Bronze Period there is evidence of Jerichoís fallen walls. With this there is mention of a new people arriving.
Archeological evidence (Merneptah Stele, Mittelsaal House at Avaris, The Bahr Yussef, Proto-Sinaitic Inscriptions, Brooklyn Papyrus, Shasu of YHWH Name Ring, Berlin Pedestal Stone Inscription, Palace, Tomb and Statue of a Semitic High Official, Ipuwer Papyrus, Walls of Jericho) substantiates much of what is in the early history of the Bible.
So, much of the exodus, which was written by Moses has been confirmed outside the Bible. However, one may never find evidence for Moses in the Egyptian annuals as they never spoke of great defeats. Who would write about an Egyptian leading a rebellion of slaves against a pharaoh? Egyptian writings were hugely propaganda to make the Pharaoh look good, not bad. Some pharaohs are known to have even erased the names of other rulers simply to take credit for their achievements! And even if they were written about much of the Egyptian’s history was wiped away when the Hyksos people defeated them.
Anyone reading this biblical note may very well be asked, in 2000 years will there be any evidence that you yourself ever existed? But you do, don’t you? Arguments from silence are very weak! And the Bible is historical evidence as well, but ultimately it takes God-given faith to understand (Heb. 11, etc).
I hope this helps.
