I'm studying Genesis 22 and looking for similarities between Isaac and Jesus. Can you help?
Only begotten son ... love | Gen. 22:2 | John 3:16 |
Early in morning ... sacrifice | Gen. 22:3 | Mark 15:25 |
Offering | Gen. 22:2 | Heb. 10:10, 12 |
Donkey to sacrifice | Gen. 22:3 | Matt. 21:2-11 |
Three days | Gen. 22:4 | 1 Cor. 15:4 |
Wood on son's back | Gen. 22:6 | Mark 15:24 |
God provides lamb | Gen. 22:8 | John 1:29 |
Offered upon wood | Gen. 22:9 | Luke 23:33 |
Thicket & thorns | Gen. 22:13 | John 19:2 |
Multiply seed | Gen. 22:17 | John 1:12 |
Bride for son | Gen. 24:1-4 | Rev. 21:9 |
Bride a virgin | Gen. 24:16 | 2 Cor. 11:2 |
Gifts for bride | Gen. 24:16 | Eph. 2:8-9 |
While there are several more in Genesis, I'd be remiss not to mention Galatians 4. Paul associated Sarah, Isaac and the way of faith with the heavenly Jerusalem, so there are numerous contrasts in Galatians 4:21-31 as well:
Jesus |
|
son of slavery | son of freedom |
Birth: "according to the flesh" | Birth: "through the promise" |
Old Covenant | New Covenant |
Mount Sinai | Mount Zion |
Earthly Jerusalem | Heavenly Jerusalem |
Below | Above |
Unbelief | Saving Faith |
