To Sit or Not to Sit? 2 Kings 24:6 and Jeremiah 36:30

Question

Didn't Jehoiachin sit on the throne after Jehoiakim (2 Kings 24:6), even though Jeremiah 36:30 says no one would?

Answer

2 Kings 24:6 Jehoiakim rested with his fathers. And Jehoiachin his son succeeded him as king.

Jeremiah 36:30 Therefore, this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim king of Judah: He will have no one to sit on the throne of David; his body will be thrown out and exposed to the heat by day and the frost by night.

What Jeremiah meant was that Jehoiakim's family name and dynasty would not continue. Indeed, his son, Jehoiachin, only ruled three months after Jehoiakim's death before being taken into captivity by the armies of Nebuchadnezzar.
