Did Asa destroy the high places? 1 Kings 15:14 and 2 Chronicles 14:3

1 Kings 15:14 Although he did not remove the high places, Asa's heart was fully committed to the LORD all his life.

2 Chronicles 14:3 He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles.

Asherah was worshipped as a Canaanite goddess who functioned as a consort for Baal. The poles were probably carved wooden images representing his deity - Ex. 34:13; Deut. 12:3. These passages may refer to different times in Asa's reign. In his early reign, he may have been more active in dealing with idolatry. Or, he may have only torn down the Asherah poles to other gods (2 Chronicles), but allowed the ones to the Lord to remain (1 Kings).

We see a similar kind of transgression(s) in the life of Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 17:6 and 20:33.
