Populating the Earth

Question

In Genesis I read of Adam and Eve being created by God. I also read of them parenting Cain, Abel and Seth. How was the earth populated given this collection of individuals?

Answer

Genesis gives us a very selective history of the primeval world. It doesn't tell us everything. Moses records only a few details to make his point. (His point, by the way, was not primarily to inform us about the early years, but to convince the Israelites to follow him to the Promised Land.) Certainly we would all agree that he left out far more than he included. Among the things he left out were all the other children Adam and Eve must have had (including daughters), and the children these other siblings of Cain, Abel and Seth must have had, and their descendants, etc.
