God's Aseity and Independence
What does God's aseity teach us about his independence from his creation?
Answer
God's aseity sounds like a complex word that really just says something very simple but important. It speaks to God's self-sufficiency, his independence, that he doesn't need anything from creation, that he wasn't lonely when he made creation. It speaks to God being sufficient in and of himself. And Acts 17 verses 24 to 25 says, "God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything." And it's an important concept. Many of the other gods in that day, they needed people; they needed people to feed them and to pay attention to them. This says something about the God of the Bible, that God is consistent in and of himself, he's independent in and of himself. He creates us for his own glory out of his own good will.
