Capernaum Centurion's Request

Question

Who brought the Capernaum centurion's request to Jesus? Matthew 8:5 and Luke 7:3-6

Answer

Matthew 8:5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.

Luke 7:3-6 The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, "This man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue." So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: "Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof."

A centurion was a Roman military officer in charge of approximately one hundred men. Matthew, who used a condensed style of writing, does not mention the elders that appear in Luke 7:1-10. It is also possible that the centurion first sent the elders, and then went in person to Jesus (compare Zebedee's wife in Matt 20:20
and Mark 10:35).
