Q&A: Transfiguration and John

Question

During the transfiguration, we are told that Peter, James, and John were there. Why, then, is John the only Gospel that does not record the transfiguration?

John's gospel was likely written much later in history than the other gospels, so John was most likely working under the assumption that people already knew about the transfiguration. Also, John was very picky about which items he included in his gospel -- as we read in John 21:25, the things that could have been written about Jesus were limitless. The account of the transfiguration must not have been critical to John's purpose in writing his gospel. In the space he had available, and at the time he was writing, he found that other things were more important to say.
